Hey Friends,

In Deuteronomy 26:5, the Israelites were given a credo to be recited when they were to bring their first fruit offerings to the presence of God, and it reads:

“You must then say in the presence of the Lord your God, ‘My ancestor Jacob was a wandering Aramean who went to live as a foreigner in Egypt. His family arrived few in number, but in Egypt they became a large and mighty nation. (New Living Translation)

The phrase I find interesting is “...wandering Aramean...” This was used to describe Jacob and, I believe, by extension, his father, Isaac, and his grandfather, Abraham. More interesting to me is their way of life and sense of direction, given that they were individuals seeking to follow God, compared to the corporate and organised Israel with laws and instructions from God.

For example, how does one get up and leave everything, including family, behind, to a land you have neither heard of nor seen, just on the words of a God you have not seen?

Just imagine with me for a second that all through that journey, they had a journal or diary with them, where their thoughts, contemplations, desires, and actions were recorded.

I am looking to start a writing series on what those diaries/journals would look like. I believe it will be an exciting one. It is simply a deep dive into what it means for a man to follow God in and by faith — believing every instruction from God and trusting God’s ultimate intentions for their lives.

Most of the time, I will be writing in a first-person voice so we can experience the content of their journal together. Will it not be beautiful to imagine the voice of Abraham? 😊
